So what is this simple problem? It is that the state of Israel calls ‘anti-Semitic’ anyone who dares questioning its behaviour towards the Palestinians. And that is all that Corbyn has –rightly- done. We all feel that the Jews were the target of some of the world’s most horrific and unforgivable mistreatment during the holocaust. That is without doubt. But that doesn’t give the State of Israel a Carte Blanche to to behave however it pleases!
There is of course no question about it- Israel is behaving in an illegal way – it is occupying territories that does not belong to the state of Israel. Get a grip! Unless I am missing something? I am certainly willing to be disabused with a convincing argument. But let’s stop this beating around the bush, being scared of the Jews!
Agreed: anti-Zionism is not anti-Semitism though dark forces manage to confuse people by conjoining the two, and I think there may be some of those within the Labour party. But Corbyn is definitely not one of them. He just hasn't defused the situation well, nor has he put the record clear on his involvement with terrorist elements in the past. There is a lot I find questionable about him - his anti-NATO stance, his stuck-in-the-past concept that the EU is just about capitalism, the City likewise, the childish belief that both must be all bad. For me his intransigence on the Brexit situation is what will disgrace him in the history books. He is responsible for the Referendum result, he is letting it all happen still. Pah! And whence cometh a better leader? Umunna seems hamstruck by some guilty secret.
ReplyDeleteAgreed to all of that. Labour would be better off without him, and you are right, his Brexit responsibility will disgrace him as his main failing...
